“But identifying common standards is just the starting point. We’ll only know if this effort has succeeded when the CURRICULUM AND TESTS are aligned to these standards.”
Gates as we know, has dumped TONS of money into Common Core. His influence is massive. But what is he really saying here? He’s saying, we have to teach to the standards, so the kids can get the “right” scores. Its a huge dumbing down of the students. Think of some really great people in America, to include Gates himself. They were TERRIBLE students. They got awful scores on tests. But they had a particular passion or skill, and a tremendous drive to further their passions.
Common Core strips that from the equation. It says, EVERYBODY must learn this “thing” in this way, to become “college or career ready”.
I am constantly hearing from people that CC doesn’t set the curriculum. Well, according to Gates, the largest individual financial supporter of CC, the standards are the first step, and setting the curriculum to match the standards is the next step. So let’s not be naive abut this any more.
